Judge Lewis Nixon is an experienced judge who was appointed and subsequently elected to the Circuit Court of Cook county in November 2002. Judge Nixon currently serves in the Chancery Division as the Supervising Judge of the Mortgage Foreclosure/Mechanics Lien Section.

LEGAL EXPERIENCE
Prior to becoming a judge, Judge Nixon served as the Regional Counsel of the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) for the 6-state Chicago Region. Before HUD, Judge Nixon was a trial attorney with the Burlington Northern Railroad Company. In 1975 Judge Nixon began his legal career as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of Illinois (Chicago) and served for 4-years.
EDUCATION
Judge Nixon earned his Juris Doctor in 1974 from De Paul Law School and his BA from St. Johns University in Collegeville, MN.

Judge Nixon has been a recipient of the Cook County States Attorney’s CF. Stradford Award; The Donald H. Hubert Award; The Cook County Bar Association Hall of Fame Award; The Illinois Judges Association’s Harold Sullivan Award; and the Diversity Scholarship Foundation Advocate for Diversity Award.

Judge Nixon was the Chairman of the Special Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Mortgage Foreclosure (2011-2013) and was a member of the Illinois Courts Commission (2021-24)
