Hon. Preston Jones Jr.

Judge Preston Jones Jr. was appointed to fill a judicial vacancy on September 25, 2017, by the Illinois Supreme Court. He went on to be elected countywide in November of 2018.

Judge Jones Jr. currently sits in the Jury section of the Law Division,  presiding over predominantly medical malpractice, wrongful death and tort injury jury trials.
He previously sat in Traffic, Evictions, 1st Municipal Jury and the Motions section of Law Division courts.

Before becoming a judge, Judge Jones Jr. spent 23 years as a Cook County Public Defender,  representing indigent persons in death penalty and murder cases.

Judge Jones Jr. has participated in the continuing legal education of the judiciary by teaching courses to his fellow Judges on the topics of Small Claims courts,  Evictions courts and Medical Malpractice cases.

Judge Jones Jr. is a member of the Civil Track Workgroup for the Illinois Judiciary biennial education conference.

He is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, and is also on the Board of Directors of the Wonder Works Children’s museum .

As a proud father of four children, he has coached baseball, basketball and soccer youth sports. He continues to coach VIP AYSO soccer for special needs young adults.

He plays “old man” basketball weekly, in his free time.

Judge Jones Jr. has dedicated his entire life to public service, in every aspect of his life and wishes to continue to do so as a Circuit Court Judge.
