Judge Thomas W. Murphy
Judicial Experience: Judge Thomas W. Murphy was elected by the voters in 2006 and was retained for another term in 2012. Judge Murphy is currently the Supervising Judge of the Civil Courtrooms in the 5th Municipal District. Judge Murphy presides over both Law Division and Municipal Division Civil cases. His court call consists of hearing case management, motions, pre-trial conferences, jury and bench trials.
Legal Experience: Practiced law for 27 years prior to becoming a judge. From 1980 until 1990 he was an associate of a law firm where he practiced civil litigation in the Daley Center and handled Workers’ Compensation matters at the Illinois Industrial Commission. Judge Thomas W. Murphy managed his own law firm from 1990 through 2006.

Public Service: Elected four times to the Chicago City Council to represent the 18th Ward 1991 to 2006.

Awards: John Marshall Law School Distinguished Service Award in 2013; Southwest Suburban Bar Association Judge of the Year in 2018.
