Judge Shelly Sutker-Dermer

Judge Shelley Sutker-Dermer is the Presiding Judge of the Second Municipal District Courthouse in Skokie. She was elected to the Circuit Court of Cook County in 1996. She has previously been found qualified and recommended by every bar association that has reviewed her credentials for retention.

Legal Experience: Assistant State’s Attorney, Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, 1983-1995. Special assignments: Felony Trial Lawyer, Criminal Division, 1987-1995; Child Sexual Exploitation Unit/Mass Molestation Unit, 1993-1994

Judicial Experience: Sutker-Dermer has been Presiding Judge of the 2nd Municipal District since October 2003. Prior to that she was Supervising Judge of the four Chicago Felony courtrooms in the 2nd District. She was appointed to the judiciary in September 1995 and elected in November 1996. As Presiding Judge she created and instituted “What Teens Should Know About the Criminal Justice System,” which was presented to more than 10,000 students in area high schools. As well as hosting numerous “Judge Shadow” programs for students from high schools and law schools, she organizes and participates in multi-departmental presentations to students from area schools and visits schools to discuss the courts and judicial process. She has brought a Veterans Court, Drug Court, and Mental Health Court to the Second Municipal District
