Judicial Candidate

Judge John Curry is a Circuit Judge in the Circuit Court of Cook County presiding in the Tax and Miscellaneous Remedies Section of the Law Division.  In his position, Judge Curry seeks to provide full access to the courts for all litigants, provide fair and equitable hearings in all cases, and ensure that self represented persons have a fair and just opportunity to have their cases heard.  He strives to ensure that “equal justice for all” prevails in all of his court proceedings.  His cases include land condemnation cases, tax cases, administrative review cases from the Illinois Workers Compensation Commission and the Illinois Department of Employment Security, replevin cases, and post-judgment enforcement cases.

Prior to his current assignment, Judge Curry served in the Mortgage Foreclosure and Mechanics Lien Section in the Chancery Division.  Earlier, he served in the First Municipal District of the Court, presiding in eviction case and civil cases.  Judge Curry’s initial assignment was to the Traffic Division, in which he had cases involving DUI and motor vehicle violations.  He was elected as a Circuit Judge from the 13th Judicial Subcircuit of Cook County in 2014.  He is a member of the American Judges Association, the Illinois Judges Association, the American Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Northwest Suburban Bar Association.

Prior to his judicial service, Judge Curry was a lawyer and partner in the Chicago office of Polsinelli, P.C.  As a founding partner of the Chicago office of that firm in 2006, his law practice concentration was in business and commercial trials and litigation.  During his engagement in the private practice of law between 1986 and 2014, his trial practice covered a wide range of areas including business, corporations, banking, real estate, franchising, condemnation, and employment discrimination.

From 1981 until 1983, Judge Curry served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois.  From 1983 until 1986, he served as a Trial Attorney with the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.  Judge Curry obtained his B.A. from Northwestern University, his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law, and was first admitted to the bar in Illinois in 1978.  He has a record of extensive civic, professional, charitable, and not for profit involvement, including support for healthcare, the arts, foster children, and veteran’s affairs.
