Judicial Candidate

Judge Janet Adams Brosnahan was elected to the bench in 2002.  In her present assignment, Judge Brosnahan presides over the most complex, high-stakes civil cases filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County.  This includes, for example, multi-million dollar lawsuits arising out of alleged medical negligence, products liability, sexual abuse, defamation, etc.

In the past 18 years, her duties have encompassed a wide range of matters, including criminal and civil trials, parentage cases, orders of protection, housing disputes and injunction hearings.  In total, Judge Brosnahan has presided over more than 150 jury trials, and hundreds of bench trials.  She has authored innumerable opinions on a wide range of contested issues. She also regularly conducts settlement conferences.

As a practicing lawyer in private civil litigation practice from 1990-2002, Janet Adams Brosnahan practiced in both state and federal court, as well as before several administrative agencies.  She represented individuals, businesses, labor unions and trust funds.   She argued before the Illinois Appellate Court, the Illinois Supreme Court and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Bar Reviews

Every Bar Association evaluation issued has been favorable, finding Judge Brosnahan qualified to continue serving as a Circuit Court Judge.

The only Bar Association to provide a written rationale stated:

She is reported to be adept at handling complex trials with patience and competence.
